What to Expect During Neurostar TMS Therapy
Neurostar TMS Therapy is a non-invasive treatment designed to alleviate symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions. During your session, you can expect a comfortable and supportive environment tailored to your needs.
Step 1: Initial Consultation and Assessment
You’ll begin with a comprehensive evaluation by one of our TMS-certified psychiatrists. Together, you’ll review your depression history, past treatments, and determine whether TMS is right for you. Once you qualify, our office will handle the insurance approval process on your behalf—most approvals take one to two weeks. When coverage is confirmed (or if you choose to self-pay), we’ll schedule your treatment start date.
Step 2: Mapping and Your First Session
Your first appointment is called the “mapping session.” During this visit, your doctor will perform motor threshold mapping—a process that helps us calibrate the device for your exact brain and comfort level. You’ll feel gentle tapping on your scalp and may notice your hand twitch briefly as we find the right settings. This step is painless and only takes one session.
Step 3: The TMS Therapy Session
Once mapping is complete, you’ll begin your regular treatment schedule—typically five days a week for six weeks. Each session lasts about 20 minutes.
You’ll relax in a comfortable chair while the TMS coil delivers gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate key areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. There’s no anesthesia or downtime—you can return to work, school, or your normal routine immediately afterward.
